چکیده

The ability to resist distraction is an important requirement for air traffic controllers. The present study examined the relationship between performance on the Stroop color-word interference test (a suggested measure of distraction suscept-iblliity) and impairment under auditory distraction on a task requiring the subject to generate random sequences of letters. Fifty male college students served as Ss. Although there was a significant decrease in "randomness" as a result of auditory distraction, the correlation between change in randomness and amount of color-word interference was nonsignificant. These findings, along with those of several other studies, suggest that the Stroop test may measure a rather restricted type of perceptual interference essentially unrelated to a possibly more general ability to maintain concentration in the presence of competing (distracting) stimuli. Effect of light color temperature on selective attention, error rate and reaction time

Investigating the effect of light color temperature on selective attention, error and human reaction time Abstract Background and aims: In humans, the reaction time limit is associated with several factors. It includes the time that takes to stimulate the sensory member, the stimulus effect is transmitted to the brain, then is perceived and the decision is made; consequently, the command resu...

سایکوآکوستیک و درک گفتار در افراد مبتلا به نوروپاتی شنوایی و افراد طبیعی

Background: The main result of hearing impairment is reduction of speech perception. Patient with auditory neuropathy can hear but they can not understand. Their difficulties have been traced to timing related deficits, revealing the importance of the neural encoding of timing cues for understanding speech. Objective: In the present study psychoacoustic perception (minimal noticeable differen...

The effects of distraction on metacognition and metacognition on distraction: evidence from recognition memory

The effects of auditory distraction in memory tasks have, to date, been examined with procedures that minimize participants' control over their own memory processes. Surprisingly little attention has been paid to metacognitive control factors which might affect memory performance. In this study, we investigate the effects of auditory distraction on metacognitive control of memory, examining the...

Selective impairment of auditory selective attention under concurrent cognitive load.

Load theory predicts that concurrent cognitive load impairs selective attention. For visual stimuli, it has been shown that this impairment can be selective: Distraction was specifically increased when the stimulus material used in the cognitive load task matches that of the selective attention task. Here, we report four experiments that demonstrate such selective load effects for auditory sele...

A non-auditory measure of interference predicts distraction by competing speech in older adults.

In this study, older adults monitored for pre-assigned target sounds in a target talker's speech in a quiet (no noise) condition and in a condition with competing-talker noise. The question was to which extent the impact of the competing-talker noise on performance could be predicted from individual hearing loss and from a cognitive measure of inhibitory abilities, i.e., a measure of Stroop int...
